It was back in June....I don't remember the date, but I remember the day. After our loooong, cool, wet spring this was one of the first beautiful, warm afternoons we had enjoyed in Missoula. I walked in to the Trail studio to do my 2-6pm show. Whatever song the computer was suggesting for me for 2:00pm just wasn't going to cut it on such a beautiful day. Everyone was in a great mood and I needed something to go along with that feeling. Marshall Crenshaw came immediately to mind and I grabbed "Whenever You're On My Mind." Perfection. I knew that Marshall was going to be over in Three Forks for the Rockin' The Rivers Festival so I navigated over to Pollstar to see his tour schedule and I noticed that he was playing Friday night August 12th in Seattle and Sunday the 14th at Rockin' The Rivers. Wow....he'd be driving right past Missoula on a Saturday night. Hell, he'd probably be staying in Spokane or Missoula. Even better yet, I saw that Marshall was touring with the Bottle Rockets. I called the booking agent to see if they were looking for a show on that free Saturday night. Why yes they were....and so, here we are hosting Marshall Crenshaw and the Bottle Rockets at the Winery on August 13th.
I'm a huge power-pop fan and therefore a huge fan of Marshall Crenshaw. His debut album is one of the finest of the genre. The Bottle Rockets are rambunctious roots-rock at its finest and have built a following in Missoula. I'm excited that the two are on the same bill and I was even more intrigued when I learned that the Bottle Rockets would open the show and then back Marshall for his performance.
So tell your friends and get your tickets for this show. We'll have it outside at the Winery, but we can set up inside if the weather doesn't cooperate. There will be food vendors and beer and, of course, there will be wine. In fact the Missoula Winery has a new wine to debut that night. It's a 21+ show.
