New Tracks – 1/9

This week on New Tracks on the Trail:

• Portland-based bluegrass/rock outfit Fruition announced last month they have completed their fifth full-length album.

It’s titled Watching It All Fall Apart, it’s produced by Tucker Martine (My Morning Jacket, The Decemberists, Modest Mouse) and it drops Feb. 2 via LoHi Records.

The band is set to perform Jan. 25 at The Top Hat.

• The multi-platform musician known as Moby will follow up last year’s More Fast Songs About the Apocalypse with a new trip-hop inspired record.

Due March 2, Everything Was Beautiful, and Nothing Hurt will mark the LA-based artist’s 15th studio release.

• Austin-based indie pop band Wild Child will release its fourth full-length on Feb. 9, with a full North American tour to follow this spring.

Expectations is notable for, among other reasons, its unusual production style. Instead of bringing one producer into the studio, the band traveled to work with a myriad of producers – as far as Norway, where they partnered with Chris Walla (formerly of Death Cab For Cutie).

The result? A diverse, “eclectic medley of songs” that pushed the band beyond its previous limits.

Expectations is due Feb. 9 via Dualtone Records. You can catch the band live April 24th at The Top Hat.

• We dipped into the latest Robert Plant album last fall with a few spins of its first single, “Bones of Saints.”

This week, we’ll revisit Carry Fire.

Released in October, the album – the former Led Zeppelin frontman’s 11th as a solo artist – is most notable for Plant’s blending of his go-to sound of traditional blues and English folk music with something new – more worldly sounds inspired by Arabic and African instruments and rhythms.

Finally, a new single from Jackson Browne.

“The Dreamer” is a politically charged song from a singer/songwriter long known for being an outspoken advocate.

This time, Browne’s focus is on immigration issues – specifically deportation. The piece was co-writen and co-recorded with Mexican-American band Los Cenzontles and features lyrics in both English and Spanish.
